Composite Fillings
A Natural-Looking Solution for Cavities & Small Tooth Fractures
Tooth decay is a common chronic health condition, but fortunately, it is treatable through dental fillings. Gilmer Family Dental offers composite fillings for a natural-looking, functional mouth. Composites serve both with both functional and aesthetic roles. That means if you happen to have a cavity in the front of a tooth along the gumline, we can clear out the decay and create a custom tooth shade that will be sculpted into place so the tooth looks better than ever.
Why Do I Need a Dental Filling?
If you’re experiencing toothaches, it may be a sign you’ll need a dental filling, because tooth sensitivity may indicate you have decay or a fracture. We will perform a thorough exam to determine the best dental treatment for your situation. If you need a filling, you can rely on us for high-quality restorations that are designed to last a lifetime. Tooth-colored fillings are virtually undetectable from surrounding teeth and restore the tooth’s normal anatomy.
We often recommend composite fillings for patients who have:
- Severe decay
- Cavities
- Chips
- Cracks
What Happens During a Dental Filling Visit?
During your dental filling appointment, the first step is to make sure you are comfortable. Then, we will isolate the tooth to be filled so it can be dry for the procedure. Any decay is removed and a bonding agent is applied followed by the composite resin. The materials will be hardened using a special dental light, and then the resin will be shaped to resemble a natural tooth. Once the restoration is in place, our dentist will smooth and polish it to accommodate your bite.
Sometimes a tooth is decayed or damaged past the point where a dental filling would be the appropriate treatment for optimal oral health. If this is the case, our dentist may a root canal covered by a porcelain crown, or in other cases, he may recommend extraction and dental implant placement.
